About the Project

The Ceremonies of Life Project uses the connections of community and culture to reclaim Indigenous sexuality and gender across all life stages. By conducting inter-generational, gender-inclusive, community research on sexual and gender wellness in the form of gatherings, Indigenous approaches to consent and accountability can be better understood and uplifted.

The research draws on ceremony, expert perspectives, lived experiences, diverse community feedback from youth and Elders of all genders, as well as the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

The Ceremonies of Life Project builds upon the years of work that Paqtnkek Mi’kmaw Nation has led in Mi’kma’ki to address gender-based and sexualized violence.
