Girls Taking Action is a leadership-based group that focuses on youth-led social action in the community. The group takes on issues that are relevant and important to them and creates projects that address these issues.
About the program
Girls Taking Action has hosted Girls’ Summits in rural, eastern Nova Scotia and have presented multiple times at Mount Saint Vincent University’s Girls’ Conference.
What
we Do
Girls Taking Action has focused on a multitude of issues. The current focus is on addressing period stigma and period equity.
The Period Kit Project creates period kits for community organizations, schools, and individuals. The kits include menstrual products, an info sheet about the products, and a sticker that calls to attention period stigma. The group provides a limited amount of sustainable period kits (kits that include menstrual underwear, menstrual cups, and/or reusable pads).
The group also hosts period parties in the community to bring youth together to bust myths about periods and to create more period kits to give away.
