Support Worker

Who This
is For

Our support workers offer services to women, adolescent girls (16 years of age and older), Two-Spirit and trans and non-binary people and their families living within Antigonish town and county. They offer weekly outreach in Guysborough, Canso, and Sherbrooke upon request.

What
we Do

  • Supportive listening and problem-solving
Our support workers listen in a caring, compassionate, and non-judgmental way and work with you to create personal plans for positive change
  • Systems navigation
Our support workers know that government systems can be complex, confusing, and intimidating. They help by explaining the processes or steps involved, and by filling out and submitting forms and applications with you.
  • Advocacy and accompaniment (medical, court, government offices)
Our support workers make phone calls, write letters, and attend appointments with you
  • Referrals to supportive agencies
Our support workers connect you with other resources in the community to help you get the support you need
  • Emergency financial assistance based on identified needs
Our support workers apply for and seek funds to support your financial needs in emergency situations

How we Work

Our support workers understand that everyone’s situation is unique and that all people are the experts of their own lives. They strive to provide the information and support needed for women, adolescent girls (16 years of age and older), Two-Spirit, trans and non-binary people to make positive changes in their lives. They respect the autonomy, confidentiality, and privacy of all people who use their services.

COVID-19

Care of ourselves and of our communities is important to us. We continue to work, though in changed ways following public health guidelines related to the
COVID-19 pandemic.

Reach out via phone or email to know more about these changes.
